🏆 Recap of the New Year Cocktail and 2024 ESG Trophy Ceremony!

On January 29th, the French-Tanzanian Chamber of Commerce (FTCC) celebrated the New Year and second edition of the ESG Trophy, an initiative recognizing companies with high-impact projects in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) in Tanzania.

Hosted at the French Residency, the event was honored by the presence of her Excellency, the Ambassador of France to Tanzania, Anne-Sophie Avé. In her inspiring speech, she highlighted the crucial role of environmental and social values in Tanzania, where tourism—the backbone of the economy—relies heavily on preserving the country’s rich natural heritage.

🌍 This year, the ESG Trophy was opened for members and non-member companies operating in Tanzania,. And the six companies – Twiga Cement, WatchOut, JV SPEK, BESIX Ballast Nedam Ltd, Made By AfriCraft, and Nabaki Afrika – showcased their innovative projects, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.

🥇 2025 Winners: Twiga Cement & AfriCraft!

🔹 Twiga Cement has been recognized for its commitment to sustainability, particularly in reducing CO₂ emissions in the cement industry, which accounts for ~7% of global anthropogenic emissions (UNECE).

By transitioning to alternative fuels such as biomass, Twiga Cement has significantly lowered its reliance on fossil fuels, reducing gas consumption by 23%. Additionally, the company introduced Twiga Mega, a new, more sustainable cement that emits 76% less CO₂ than traditional cement.

Beyond reducing its environmental footprint, Twiga Cement actively contributes to ecological restoration, having planted or donated over 26,000 trees. The company also supports local communities by improving access to clean water and driving impactful social initiatives.

A remarkable example of how industrial innovation can align with sustainability! 🌍

🔹 AfriCraft, a pioneer in circular economy solutions in Tanzania, was recognized for its innovative waste management and community empowerment initiatives.

The company established several waste management centers, built eco-friendly structures in three primary schools in Dar es Salaam, and launched impactful social programs such as the AfriBike Initiative, providing 40 bicycles to rural students, and the Binti Project, which distributes reusable sanitary pad kits while empowering women entrepreneurs.

🎉 An Inspiring Evening

The ceremony highlighted projects that not only tackle ESG challenges in Tanzania but also inspire other businesses to adopt more sustainable and inclusive practices.

The FTCC extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the companies that participated in this second edition of the ESG Trophy. Your commitment to sustainability and positive impact is truly inspiring!

We would also want to offer ourheartfelt thanks to our sponsors: Forvis Mazars, CFAO and Sagemcom without whom this event would not have been possible.
