The French-Tanzanian Chamber of Commerce (FTCC) officially launched its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Committee on 30 September 2025, during an inaugural session hosted at HSD’s offices in Dar es Salaam. This strategic initiative aims to reinforce the Chamber’s commitment to responsible business and to provide its members with a collaborative platform to strengthen their ESG capacities.
This first session brought together a diverse group of members to explore how ESG principles can be effectively integrated into corporate strategy and day-to-day operations. The objective was to introduce the Committee’s purpose, structure, and annual roadmap while creating space for open dialogue on the challenges and opportunities related to ESG implementation in Tanzania.
The Committee is built around three thematic pillars, each led by a key member organization:
Governance – led by Benjamin MKWIZU from PwC Tanzania
Environment – led by SYAKAA William from Axum Earth
Social – led by Elodie ROUSSELHSD Human Resource Solutions
Each pillar will serve as a foundation for technical workshops and capacity-building sessions scheduled throughout 2025–2026. During the session, a live polling exercise allowed participants to identify their top priority topics, which helped shape the Committee’s programming for the coming year.
One of the highlights of the roadmap is the return of the FTCC ESG Trophy 2025, scheduled for January 2026. The award will continue to recognize member companies that demonstrate outstanding sustainability practices. A redesigned format for the 2026 edition is also in preparation, with new categories reflecting engagement in Committee-led activities.
The ESG Committee will play a central role in helping FTCC members align with international ESG standards, contribute to national development goals, and respond to growing stakeholder expectations around transparency, ethics, and sustainability.
