Event report | Global Health And Safety Conference

The TOHASA event on Global Security and Health at Work, held on February 21, highlighted the crucial role of workplace safety and health in all sectors in Tanzania.

As Tanzania's economy expands, adopting a long-term and responsible approach to improve health and safety standards at work is crucial. This requires mobilization from both the public and private sector, through more comprehensive policies, preventive actions, regulations on tobacco and alcohol at work, health promotion in education, among others.

Key takeaways to improve workplace safety and health.

Wendy Brown, General Manager and HSE Strategy Lead on the EACOP project, shared her experience managing health and safety challenges since 2001. Drawing from her expertise, she emphasized key actions for improving workplace safety:

  • Education and training: raise awareness and train all your employees on safety rules.

  • Risk awareness : audit your company’s risks and put mitigation measures in place

  • Awareness with life-saving rules: enforce and respect the 9 fundamental savings rules (OHS).

  • Audit and supervision: ensure proper oversight to guarantee both employee safety and business productivity.

  • Encourage workers to speak up: encouragie your workers to express their concerns about working risks. Make sure safety is a shared responsibility.

We sincerely thanks to the president of  TOHASA, Caroline Baraza and her team for inviting our members to this insightful event. Your efforts in promoting workplace safety and health are highly valuable, and we appreciate the opportunity to be part of this important discussion.
