The African Trade Observatory (ATO):

The ATO (one of the five operational instruments of the AfCFTA), serves as a repository of trade information to inform business and policy decisions and allows to monitor, in real time, the pace of trade in Africa. It is led by the African Union (AU), implemented with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and supported by the European Union (EU).

The ATO is critical for helping businesses to identify and compare emerging opportunities across the continent; it equips the African businesses with trade intelligence on trends, opportunities, and market access conditions.

Its main functions are to:

  • Compare trade and market access information across countries, products or markets.

  • Find detailed trade and market access-related information for a country-product-market combination.
