Event Report - From Commitment to Action: ESG in Practice
What does ESG look like in practice? Our forum brought together business leaders and entrepreneurs to find out.
On 22 April, the French-Tanzanian Chamber of Commerce and Forvis Mazars brought together business leaders, entrepreneurs, and sustainability professionals at the Serena Hotel in Dar es Salaam for a forum dedicated to the practical realities of ESG implementation in Tanzania.
The event, titled "From Commitment to Action: ESG in Practice", was designed to move beyond theoretical frameworks and explore how companies operating in Tanzania are embedding environmental, social, and governance principles into their daily operations.
The forum was opened by Her Excellency the Ambassador of France, who underlined the importance of sustainability as a shared priority between France and Tanzania.
Panel discussion
A panel discussion moderated by Alice Nchwali brought together leaders from across sectors: Ahmed Mhada from Mbeya Cement, Sameer Santosh Gupta from Kamal's Group, Innocent Yonazi from NMB Bank Plc, Catherine Elly Temu from Yas Tanzania, and Ahmad Taha from AG Energies. The panelists shared how ESG is being integrated into their operations, the challenges they face, and the lessons learned along the way.
Inauguration of the FTCC ESG Trophy 2025
The evening also marked the inauguration of the FTCC ESG Trophy 2025, recognizing companies demonstrating outstanding ESG initiatives in Tanzania. Five companies pitched their projects in front of a jury composed of Marsha Macatta-Yambi, Sarah Bisanda, Nasma Aboubakary, and Erica E. Wojcik, who assessed each submission through a rigorous selection process.
The two winners, who received their trophies from FTCC Chairman Christophe Darmois:
Large Company category: Attitude Hotels
Startup/SME category: LIMA AFRICA
The FTCC would like to thank all five finalists, Yas, Oryx, Healthyseaweed, Attitude Hotels, and LIMA AFRICA, for presenting initiatives that demonstrate ESG is not just an ambition in Tanzania, it is becoming a reality.
